The Port Orford Lifeboat Station was commissioned in 1934 and provided search and rescue services for the southern Oregon coast until 1970. During that time, its crews mounted daring rescues at great personal risk. Their Motto: "You have to go out, you don't have to come back." Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the Port Orford Lifeboat Station retains much of its original architecture. The park is located on the Port Orford Heads. Walk the spectacular trails in the park, the Headlands trail takes you out to the westernmost point. You can see seals, sealions and if the time of the year is right, the whales migrating north or south. If you look north, you'll also see the historic Cape Blanco Light. |
