Now that the rains have died down, it’s our favorite time of year to get out on our bicycles. Sunny day rides along Hwy. 101 are great during this low-wind time of year. It’s also a nice time to head up China Mt. Road, or up into Grassy Knob Wilderness, if climb/descent is your thing.
There are plenty of beautiful and fun day half- and full-day rides you can take starting from the Powder House driveway, and we’re happy to suggest some. If you’re looking for a guided rides on pavement, off-road, singletrack, or beach rides, Pineapple Express Adventure Rides is Port Orford’s bike-guide company. They can take you further into the back-country for some memorable rides.
The Powder House is a bike-friendly business, and Port Orford is becoming more of a bike-friendly town. In 2017, they painted 2 wide bike lanes along Hwy. 101 making for a more enjoyable pedal across town. There’s a bike-kiosk in front of the Food Co-op with tools, a mechanic stand, and a high-volume pump (we’ve got bike storage and a pump, too) for your maintenance needs. With luck, you’ll be in town for our (almost) Critical Mass bike rides. It’s a fun time to explore Port Orford roads alongside the people who live here.
So, come and pedal around with us before the summer winds take over.
